Joanna Habermann, Director
The Central Children’s Choir is comprised of children and youth in grades K-8. The choir's diverse choral repertoire includes songs from various cultures, songs in foreign languages, and music from different historical time periods, as well as traditional hymns, spirituals and folk songs. Children in choir learn to read music from a choral octavo and hymnal, sight read simple rhythms and melodies, and develop aural skills. The Children’s Choir offers its musical gifts in Central's worship service approximately once a month, sometimes in conjunction with the Chancel Choir and Chancel Bells. Children from the wider community desiring to participate in the Central Children’s Choir are invited to join, with approval of the director.
Joanna Habermann has worked with nationally renowned children’s choirs, including the San Francisco Girls Chorus, Indianapolis Children’s Choir, Hawaii Youth Opera Chorus, and Miami Children’s Chorus. She has taught chorus and general music to every grade level from Preschool through High School. Mrs. Habermann earned a BA in Music from Pomona College, a MM in Choral Conducting from Butler University and a Kodaly Certificate from Texas State San Marcos. She resides in Lakewood with her husband Joshua and their two children Kira and Kai.
